Kitchens are probably the most important room in the house with most days beginning and ending here. As such it should be both practical and beautiful, making it a pleasure to spend time and work in.

Bespoke Kitchen Design

The design process here at Dovetail is the most important aspect of creating a new kitchen. Good design starts with a conversation, whether an individual or architectural team. We will explore every aspect of its purpose, who it is for, expectations etc. The conversation usually starts with an email, a telephone call, a visit to our studio or face to face meeting. This follows on to a detailed site survey from which the design phase begins. Millimetre accurate drawing sets of plans and elevations are prepared, clearly laying out your vision. Sometimes, at our clients request, we use an artists impression to bring the 2D drawings to life, making it easier to visualise final design. We can also supply and fit Howdens kitchens (https://www.howdens.com/kitchens/fitted-kitchens). We are often asked to either fit out a utility room with an off the shelf kitchen alongside one of our own. Equally we can enhance  a factory produced kitchen with hand turned handles and worktops. This allows us to meet most budgets.

Wooden Worktops

Dovetail’s timber worktops can be in whatever Scottish timber you prefer. Oak, Elm, Sycamore, Beech and Ash being the most Common, although if you have a preference for something else we would be happy to make it for you. We use wider boards in our worktops compared to off the shelve tops. This method highlights the grain and colour of the timber we are using with each plank carefully selected and colour matched with a keen, trained eye. With each worktop being made to suit, it is possible to use the natural edge of the plank, giving a unique look and feel which is very popular with our clients. A Dovetail worktop is a great way to spice up a tired old kitchen or finish a new one and will be enjoyed for generations.

Granite, Marble, Stone & Slate Worktops

Our preferred supplier for our granite, marble, stone or slate tops is Toffolo (www.toffolo.co.uk) based in Stirling. We have a close working relationship with this company and have never over our 15 years dealing with them had any reason to complain. We arrange a meeting at their yard with our clients who are shown all the different granite available in large sheets. This makes it easier to see the true colour and patterns of the top. When the material is selected we send over a CAD drawing of the required worktop, which often contain curves. This is uploaded to their CNC cutting machine which produce a millimetre perfect top. This is finished by hand in their workshop and when we are ready they deliver and fit it. So whatever your taste in worktops we have the tried and tested connections to get the job done right.
